The basic legal tool for many of those who build or want to build illegally in Mykonos is called "settlement of unauthorized constructions”. What does this mean? The legalization of buldings that were erected without permission or with a construction permit that covers a smaller structure, is only allowed in Greek legislation if these buildings were erected before 28/7/2011. However, even though there are countless illegal buildings on Mykonos that were built after 2011, they are easily "settled" and their owners do not suffer the slightest consequence. The Greek daily I Kathimerini wrote this weekend that over 7.500 buildings have been legalized in this way since 2011.
